Messines NZ Anzac Day Ceremony (Frank Mahieu) - Mesen - 25/04/2022
25/04/2022 - Mesen
At the New Zealand Memorial Park at Messines an ANZAC Day remembrance ceremony took place after the ceremonies at Zonnebeke, Passendale and Ypres Special Last Post. The NZ Memorial Park situated on Messines ridge was the site where the NZ Division attacked on June 7th 1917. The ceremony was organised by the New Zealand Embassy. The NZ delegation was led by the Ambassador Mrs. Diana Reaich & Military Attaché Col. Rian McKinstry. The Chaplain of St. Georges Memorial Church Ypres said the prayers and blessing. Local Belgian civil authorities were present too. A dark sky came along and a rain and hailstorm set in during the ceremony, but didn't stop this act of remembrance.
After this ceremony a tribute was done at the Belgian War Memorial and 'Kiwi' soldier in the center of Messines. (see other report)
NL tekst :
(zie ander verslag hierover)
